To all the fans of us at Somerset West, Gordensbay, Strand, Stellenbosch and surrounding areas. We have to introduce this new dish to you. Chinese dumplings, or Dim Sum, is very popular in Cape Town, as such, we had to introduce or fans with the same dishes. Be it transculant Pastry, steamed or fried, you now have more dumplings to choose from.
On the menu, the only Dim Sum that was available was the wantons....well have a look at the pictures, and see how nice these dishes look. While the wanton is deep fried, most of the new Dim Sum will be steamed. Hargau has prawn with peppers and then the pastry, emerald dumplings has 2 colors, green and white.
Open steam dumplings come with a pea on top as garnish, the two flavors available is chicken/chicken and prawn. There are a few new kinds, and only a fraction was named in here.
Dim Sum goes well with any herbal tea, and that was the main purpose of the Dim Sum as well. In China, the people that traveled the country couldn't always take a whole lot of food and drink with them, and the idea of tea next to the road was actually a very good idea. So they started making tea houses, and after a while, snacks followed within these tea houses. Those snacks are the Dim Sum that is now known world wide, almost as popular as sushi.

The story of sushi
According to all sushi is a Japanese dish, while the Japanese started to trade sushi, they were not the ones whom created the dish. Long ago the Chinese fisherman had no fridges to store their food, there were not a lot of options for them to. Because the boats were made out of wood, they had to come up with means to eat, but not make fire on their wooden vessels. As such, when they went to land, the would make barrels of rice, treat it with vinegar so that the rice would stay soft for longer. They would then embark on their fishing journeys, taking some of the fish in their hauls, cut them up, and mix the fish with the rice in order to fill their bellies. This is how sushi started. In later years the Japanese would take some more colorful seafood, letting the sushi look nice and transformed the Chinese meal into the beautiful artful food that is present all around the world
